The multitude of roles the PAP portray themselves playing creates this impression of extreme competence, which may have been detrimental to their campaign as this distances the party from the voters.
The Conceptual Metaphor "PAP is a demanding parent" provided by the WP provides the finishing blow against the PAP. While the PAP may give off the "aura" of competence, the Conceptual Metaphor adds in a certain element of tiredness, of being overworked. It is not a great leap of logic that an overworked party, even one as competent as the PAP, would become more and more demanding of the public, and thus this WP Conceptual Metaphor effectively counters the PAP Conceptual Metaphors shown here.
