Welcome to our Web Report!

Our project in essence allows us to understand what conceptual metaphors appeal to the public by analysing political discourse. Particularly, we focused on the two latest Singapore by-elections, in Punggol East and Hougang, in which many Singaporean voters and political observers were surprised to see the ruling party, People's Action Party, lose their seats to the contesting Workers Party. Thus, in order to create a link between the results of the election and the thoughts of the voters, we used the Conceptual Metaphor Theory, paired with a few other analysis theories, to better understand the conceptual metaphors that are inherent in Singapore Political Discourse, and also gain new insight into the types of conceptual metaphors that appeal to the Singaporean public.
